- Professional development and growth opportunities Department/Unit Summary 3 12 hour shifts Neuro/Ortho experience preferred 20 bed unit Patient population is spine/neck/head surgery, stroke and seizure Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. To render professional nursing care to a group of assigned patients (primarily neuroscience and spine patients) within the hospital. Collaborates with the medical staff and other members of the health care team to provide high quality patient care. Performs all activities in accordance with approved policies and guidelines. Assessments include physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age appropriate, cultural and discharge planning needs. Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment. Documents patient care given. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family. Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient. Assists with orientation and training of others as directed and other duties as assigned. Maintains hospital and clinic standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience. Maintains compliance with organization's policies, as well as established practices, protocols and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards. Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information. Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization. Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements and the TJC standards and or standards from other accrediting bodies. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Licenses: Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license).
