What you can expect as a Director of Underwriting Solutions:
- Underwriting Process Improvement
o Evaluate workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements.
o Identify underwriting processes suitable for automation
o Gather feedback from underwriters to refine tools and maximize usability.
o Provide thought leadership on reducing cycle time and optimizing decision-making.
- AI & Risk Intelligence Coordination
o Represent underwriting in the design, training, and validation of AI-driven risk models.
o Translate underwriting needs to IT and helps review requirements and acceptance criteria.
o Review AI outputs to ensure they support sound underwriting decisions.
- Generative AI for Underwriting
o Deploy generative AI for risk summaries, policy narratives, and customer communications.
o Establish governance for prompt libraries and output quality.
o Train underwriters on ethical and effective use of AI in underwriting.
- Strategic Collaboration
o Liaise between underwriting leadership, technology, and compliance to align initiatives.
o Collaborate with IT, BPO and other teams to integrate automation tools into underwriting systems.
o Represent underwriting in digital transformation committees.
o Communicate benefits of automation and AI to underwriting teams.
o Facilitate strategic discussions and lead presentations with executive IT and business stakeholders.
- Vendor Research & Technology Solutioning
o Research and evaluate technology vendors for underwriting automation.
o Assess offerings for alignment with underwriting needs and integration capabilities.
o Collaborate with BPO and IT to implement best-fit solutions.
- Cost Evaluation & Solution Comparison
o Lead cost assessments for underwriting technology solutions.
o Develop cost-benefit analyses factoring in underwriting impact and operational efficiency.
o Present findings to underwriting leadership for informed decision-making.
- Procurement & Solution Sourcing
o Manage procurement for underwriting technology solutions.
o Draft requirements, evaluate proposals, and negotiate contracts.
o Maintain vendor relationships and ensure compliance with underwriting standards.
What we are looking for as a Director of Underwriting Solutions:
- Underwriting Systems & Automation: Experience with automated underwriting systems (AUS), rules engines, and workflow tools.
- Process Improvement: Ability to identify inefficiencies and implement innovative solutions.
- Collaboration: Strong strategic thinking and experience working with IT, compliance, and other teams to align technology with business objectives.
- Change Management: Ability to drive adoption of new tools through training and communication.
- Leadership: Proven experience leading transformation initiatives.
- Procurement & Vendor Management: Expertise in sourcing and managing technology vendors for insurance solutions.
- RFP/RFI Development: Ability to draft clear requirements and evaluate proposals for underwriting technology.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning or related fields or a minimum of three years of recent experience in technology with a proven record of leading IT transformations.
- For the current position a 2-20 or 20-44 P&C insurance license or a 4-40 CSR insurance license must be successfully obtained.
