SUMMARY

Provide additional leadership and support to the manager assigned to the area and temporarily covers for that manager in their absence.  Position also provides an opportunity to identify and develop employees for leadership positions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and assign tasks to area workers as directed.
  • Follows and ensures employee compliance with all company policies and procedures, including standard procedures for safety, quality, efficiency, as well as financial and customer business expectations.
  • Assists manager in resolving day-to-day issues and remains flexible.
  • Helps onboard new employee and may train employees in various duties and skills.
  • Answers questions, troubleshoots issues, and helps resolves concerns.
  • Desires and demonstrates capability for increasing role of supervisory responsibility within the company. 
  • Communicates respectfully and honestly with others.
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making across the organization. 
  • Participates in cross-functional project teams as necessary.
  • Works cooperatively and efficiently with other departments to meet the overall objectives of the company.
  • Strives to reduce waste, recycle products whenever possible, and re-use resources when practical.
  • Works safely at all times, follows safety rules and policies and participates in scheduled training.
  • Reports injuries and near misses promptly and in required detailed format; proposes corrective action.
  • Has a critical role in assuring food safety, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Leads by example in work style and performance, as well as maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
  • Management of hazardous waste.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides functional supervision 20-40% of the time by directing the work activity of other employees, but is not responsible for hiring, termination, evaluation, pay decisions, or corrective action.
  • Takes responsibility for safety within department and actively assesses hazards in their department and finds solutions to those hazards.
  • Reinforces a safety culture: leads by example, reminds employees to work safely, praises good behavior and safe practices, encourages suggestions, communicates consequences for unsafe acts, holds employees accountable, disciplines employees when warranted.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6 – 12 months of related experience.  Prior supervisory experience preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, short correspondence, or memos; including operating procedures or safety rules. Ability to effectively and accurately write correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and small group situations with a limited group of people.

 

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

This position is considered an avenue to develop and advance internal employees.  Employees desiring this position will have greater success if they have the following skills:

  • Computer skills such as e-mail, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • Public speaking experience at Frontier or elsewhere helpful.
