JOB TITLE Peer Support Coordinator, Peer Support Coordinator Certified

SUMMARY:

Peer Support Coordinators provide supervision and direction to the Peer Recovery Specialists working in the Peer Support Center (PSC). Peer Support Coordinators work to provide hope, encouragement, support, self-determination, and connection to individuals served. Peer Support Coordinators plan and implement support / community-based activities for individuals served. Peer Support Coordinators partner with their community to provide outreach services. Peer Support Coordinators are responsible for all activities organized by the PSC. Peer Support Coordinators ensure the PSC and employees fulfill all grant requirements.

A Peer Support Coordinator must be a person with lived experience who has met the criteria for a diagnosable mental, behavioral, substance use or emotional disorder at some point in their adult life. A Peer Support Coordinator must demonstrate stability in their own recovery for a significant period of time and demonstrate a willingness to identify self as a person in recovery.

EXPERIENCE:

Education: High School Diploma/GED required.

Licensure: Obtain and maintain a driver’s license with “F” endorsement within 30 days of hire. No endorsement required for VA residents.

Certification: Upon hire, obtain Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification from the State within required timeframe.

Experience: Past/present utilization of mental health services required.

Knowledge/Skills:

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.

Ability to safely operate a 15 passenger van or company vehicle. Must have intermediate skills in Microsoft Office programs. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to present in the community and other mental health settings.

EQUIPMENT: Computer, fax, GPS, copier, 15-passenger van and any other equipment required to perform the functions of the position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLILITIES:

1. Selects, trains, and evaluates performance of employees.

2. Organizes and schedules employee work activities.

3. Maintains a safe work environment by identifying and correcting potentially unsafe conditions and work practices.

4. Maintains a positive working environment within and across departmental functions. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Implement goals and objectives established by the agency based on state contracts.

2. Adhere to the state Peer Recovery Specialist Code of Ethics.

3. Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss PSC operations, activities, concerns, incidents, performance, ideas, etc.

4. Write and distribute a monthly newsletter concerning topics related to peer support, recovery, and wellness.

5. Provide transportation for individuals using services in 15-passenger van.

6. Complete monthly state report on center attendance and activities per contract.

7. Make recommendations to supervisor for modifications in policies, procedures and programs as needed.

8. Assist individuals in developing and achieving personal goals for recovery.

9. Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to recovery philosophy.

10. Demonstrate a commitment to continued education on wellness, recovery, and peer leadership.

11. Attend relevant seminars, in-service trainings, including out of town trainings, as directed.

12. Organize and lead peer support activities and groups.

13. Share progress and barriers with other staff providers, as applicable.

14. Perform the following fiscal administrative functions:

a. Submit requests for maintenance of major and minor problems.

b. Approve all purchases and forward to immediate supervisor.

c. Approve and submit timesheets for payroll processing.

15. Prepare and coordinate calendar of activities for the PSC.

16. Responsible for day-to-day operations of the PSC, including fulfilling the same duties of a Peer Recovery Specialist, when needed.

17. Complete community outreach for purposes of providing community peer support, education, advocacy, and reduction of stigma.

18. All other duties as assigned.
