SUMMARY

Performs various maintenance functions on equipment, facility and grounds, including basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing upkeep and repair. Position exists to provide additional leadership and support to the manager assigned to the facility and temporarily covers for that manager in his or her absence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees maintenance projects from start to finish.
  • Supervises additional maintenance staff.
  • Assists in troubleshooting processing, packaging, distribution, and warehousing equipment problems and in the formulation of solutions.
  • Engages and manages outside contractors.
  • Able to work well in groups and along with contractor to complete jobs.
  • Able to use manuals and other resources to research and locate equipment and parts to support production needs.
  • Requests parts and service if needed.
  • Operates power and hand tools, woodworking and metal equipment, forklift, welder, cutting torch, and multi-meter.
  • Maintains tools and machinery in good condition and uses all tools carefully and as instructed.
  • Must be able to utilize the Maintenance Management software.
  • Leads by example in work style and performance as well as maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
  • Assists manager in resolving day-to-day issues and remains flexible.
  • Communicates respectfully and honestly with others.
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making across the organization.
  • Has a critical role in assuring food safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Strives to reduce waste, recycle products whenever possible, and re-use resources when practical.
  • Works safely at all times, follows safety rules and policies and participates in scheduled training.
  • Reports injuries and near misses promptly and in required detailed format; proposes corrective action.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Takes responsibility for safety within department and actively assesses hazards in their department and finds solutions to those hazards.
  • Reinforces a safety culture: leads by example, reminds employees to work safely, praises good behavior and safe practices, encourages suggestions, communicates consequences for unsafe acts, holds employees accountable, disciplines employees when warranted.
  • Provides on call support to facility for maintenance related needs. (North Liberty)

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Industrial Maintenance degree; and 2-4 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have an active driver’s license and to be qualified to operate a vehicle on company business the following eligibility requirements must be met for some locations.
  • Be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of 3 years of driving experience.
  • Have a valid driver's license issued by the state of residence.
  • Have no Class 1 or more than three Class 2 violations (see Fleet Safety Program) within the past 60 months.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple notices and instructions, including operating procedures and safety rules. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in building, electrical, and mechanical trades, and of related occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Attention to detail, good organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to take on additional responsibility.
  • Take record for being involved in company sponsored improvement teams such as the safety committee.
  • Computer skills such as e-mail, MS Work, and MS Excel.
