PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains all district flowerbeds and shrubs in a neat and presentable manner; this will include weeding, planting and bed preparation. All plants will be maintained in a healthy condition conducive to growth.
  • Maintains all district trees in a neat and presentable manner. All trees will be maintained in a healthy condition conducive to growth.
  • Completes "finish" grass trimming at all seven district locations once a week from April 15 through November 1. "Finish" work includes but is not limited to, string trimmings sidewalk edges and around flowerbeds, trees, and playground equipment.
  • Assists with raking and collection of leaves; cleaning gutters and catch basins; policing grounds and parking lots for debris, damage, etc.
  • Identifies, selects and applies pesticides as required to maintain turf, flower beds, trees and other ornamental vegetation in a healthy condition.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs typical grounds equipment.
  • Maintains all district athletic fields in safe condition and a neat and presentable manner. Activities to complete this include all aspects of field maintenance.
  • Identifies areas on athletic fields where deficiencies appear and reports such deficiencies to the Grounds Crew Chief.
  • Completes layout and marking of all athletic fields including application of "athletic" marking paints and "dry" marking materials.
  • Selects and operates appropriate grounds equipment to maintain athletic field turfs/surfaces per identified schedule.
  • Repairs concrete and black top surfaces, including removal and installation.
  • Assists in snow removal and distribution of sand, salt, or grit, maintaining all roadways in a clean and safe condition.
  • Lifts, moves, transports heavy items as required.
  • Performs additional assigned tasks as required.


Job Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must possess knowledge of acceptable procedures and practices of grounds maintenance work.

2. Must possess ability to organize work for self and to work with others.

3. Must be willing to perform routine and manual work.

4. Must have physical endurance and be in good physical condition.

5. Must possess valid New York State CDL Class B license.

6. Must possess valid Pesticide Application License.

7. Must have completed at least an elementary education and have one year of satisfactory experience in grounds maintenance work or must have any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work required.

JOB GOAL: The work of a groundsworker involves performing manual tasks having to do with grounds maintenance and the general upkeep of school facilities outdoors. The individual will be responsible for the satisfactory completion of a variety of grounds and landscaping tasks and the operation of common grounds equipment. Additional training will be provided when “specialty” equipment is to be used. Many assignments are of a repetitive nature. Once training has been provided, it is expected that tasks will be performed without difficulty and direct supervision. The person holding this position will be required to work flexible hours per district needs; work hours and/or days may change. The person holding this position will do related work as required to fill schedule.
