What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Frontier Central School District?
Must be a current Accountant or be one of the top 3 eligibles on a valid civil service list or willing to accept a provisional appointment.
PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in budget development and monitoring;
- Oversees the safeguarding, accounting and auditing of extra-classroom activities;
- Oversees required reporting to the State Education Department;
- Assists in the annual school district audit;
- Oversees tracking of fixed assets and assists with other bidding and procurement
- Monitors capital project expenditures and reporting requirements.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:
- Budget
- Assists in the preparation of the annual school district expenditure budget;
- Monitors expenditure budget variances throughout the year;
- Assists with monthly fund balance projections.
- Oversees the Safeguarding, Accounting and Auditing of Extra Classroom Activity Funds
- Provides building administrators with guidelines for administering extra classroom activity funds;
- Report all inconsistencies to Assistant Superintendents and Superintendent of Schools;
- Recommends improvements in the efficiency of the extra classroom accounting operation.
- Completes monthly reviews of the student activity club ledgers.
- Monthly and Annual Financial Reports
- Includes capital project payments and expenditure reports to the Board of Education.
- Coordinates preparation of ST-3 and related annual reporting to the State Education Department
- E-Rate Application
- Attends meetings and coordinates with BOCES and District technology staff.
- Prepares purchase orders and annual invoices as required.
- Maintains E-Rate files and backup documentation for auditing requirements.
- Annual Audit
- Oversees reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts at year end.
- Prepares supporting schedules and closing journal entries as required.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A minimum of two (2) years of successful experience in
accounting;
2. A Bachelor’s Degree or higher or acceptable experience;
3. A good knowledge of organizational structure, goals and
objectives;
- The ability to communicate ideas clearly, orally and in writing;
- A good knowledge of accounting and business office procedures;
- A good knowledge of pertinent education and local finance laws, Commissioner’s Regulations, and directives and opinions of the Comptroller of the State of New York.
