What are the responsibilities and job description for the Charter Boat Captain position at Front Street Shipyard?
The Charter Boat Captain personnel is a qualified and authorized employee that operates vessels under direction from the Marina Manager. This role may also be referred to as Maritime Operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate vessels for relocation, haulage, repair, tow, passenger movement or other miscellaneous operations
- Ensure passenger safety and provide customer service
- Assist in and/or conduct vessel operations and maintenance as directed by the Marina Manager
- Monitor daily progress of the vessel, observing speed, engine pressure and water depths, and signaling any passing vessels
- Available to work overtime, weekends and holidays when required
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area. Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.
Technical and Physical Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-5 years marina experience preferred
- USCG Captains License Required
- Ability to work safely around water
- Must be able to swim
- Must have a valid drivers’ license Ability to lift 50 pounds
