Inspector – East End Bridges Replacement (Contract)

Location: Long Island, NY (Multiple Sites: Amagansett, Eastport, and Sagaponack) Employment Type: Full-Time / Project Duration

Front Line Advisory Group (FLAG) is seeking multiple Full-Time Field Inspectors to provide consultant construction management and inspection services for the MTA Construction & Development (C&D) East End Bridges Replacement Project. This critical infrastructure program involves the dismantling of three existing bridges and the design-build construction of new bridge structures, retaining walls, and drainage systems across the east end of Long Island.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all work performed by the Design-Builder meets the stringent quality, safety, and technical standards required for an FRA-regulated railroad environment.

Key Responsibilities

Field Inspection & Quality Control

  • Monitor the dismantling and disposal of existing bridge structures.
  • Inspect the construction of new bridge structures, retaining walls, and roadway approaches.
  • Oversee milling, paving, curb/gutter, and sidewalk construction to ensure adherence to revised roadway profiles.
  • Perform quality checks on submittals and project procedures to identify deviations from Construction Contract documents or approved For-Construction Drawings.
  • Review the Design-Builder's submittals, shop drawings, product data, and samples during construction.

Safety & Environmental Oversight

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with all environmental requirements, including hazardous/regulated material handling.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, MTA C&D, and LIRR safety requirements throughout the project duration.
  • Identify environmental nonconformances (e.g., excessive dust, noise, or illicit discharges) and implement immediate corrective action.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare written daily inspection reports including illustrative photos and sketches.
  • Maintain a current set of mark-up drawings (redlines) reflecting work completed to date.
  • Coordinate records and information transfer from the Design-Builder to the MTA to ensure smooth transition of documents.
  • Utilize electronic platforms for all project documentation in a "paperless" environment.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Equivalent Experience: Nine (9) years of Construction (Design, Inspection, etc.) experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Safety Training.
  • Valid NYS Department of Labor Asbestos Inspector Certificate (required for field staff).
  • Possession of asbestos and lead policy instruction and awareness training.

Experience

  • Relevant construction inspection experience, specifically within structural and civil backgrounds.
  • Preferably five (5) years of experience in the engineering or construction field.
  • Experience in safety oversight and environmental monitoring.

Technical Skills

  • Strong ability to work within a "paperless" environment using electronic documentation tools.
  • Ability and flexibility to support project delivery across three different sites: Amagansett, Eastport, and Sagaponack.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MTA C&D and LIRR operations and standard practices.
  • Knowledge of construction when working in proximity to active railroad operations.
  • AMPP (formerly SSPC) C3 or C5 certification for Lead/Hazardous Coating Removal.
