Comptroller

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Comptroller to lead our property management and real estate development firm's bookkeeping operations. This pivotal role requires advanced proficiency of AppFolio property management and accounting features to manage property portfolios, development project costs, and general ledgers. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and team leadership, with a passion for maintaining transparency and accuracy in complex financial environments. As a key member of our team, the Comptroller will ensure adherence to industry standards such as GAAP and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the bookkeeping department.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and review of comprehensive financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Manage the organization’s general ledger accounting processes, including account reconciliation, journal entries, and month-end/year-end closing procedures.
• Supervise the team responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cost accounting analysis, and financial analysis activities.
• Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure regulatory compliance across all financial operations.
• Conduct detailed financial analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and strategic decision-making initiatives.
• Manage external audits, coordinate regulatory compliance efforts, and facilitate continuous process improvements within the finance function.

Requirements

• Proven experience in corporate accounting with a strong understanding of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and governmental accounting standards.
• Demonstrated expertise in managing accounting teams.
• Extensive knowledge of financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and account reconciliation processes.
• Proficiency with financial software platforms including AppFolio and M3 accounting software.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large data sets for accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
• Experience in managing regulatory compliance accounting including public accounting practices when applicable.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams effectively while managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
