Part-Time Gallery Sales Assistant

Frog Hollow Craft Gallery in downtown Burlington, Vermont, the nation's first State Craft Center, is seeking an energetic and dedicated Part-Time Gallery Sales Assistant to join our team. We are a mission-based organization supporting the work of over 100 Vermont artists and craftspeople, and we are looking for a key team member to help us through our busiest season and plan for the future.

This position is guaranteed through the end of 2026, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs in 2027.

Pay: $16.00-$18.00 per hour dependent on experience. Schedule: Part-time (approx. 20-30 hours/week). Must have Saturday and Sunday availability and be available through the holiday season.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a customer-focused individual to be a primary point of contact for our visitors and a critical link between our weekend and weekday teams. This role is essential for driving gallery sales, maintaining a beautiful and engaging retail environment, and providing excellent service to our customers and artists.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary focus of this role is customer interaction, sales, and logistical support. A typical day might include:

Sales & Customer Service (Primary Focus):

Working directly with customers to share the stories of our artists, facilitate sales, and process transactions accurately using our POS system (Square).

Proactively following up with customers regarding special orders, commissioned pieces, and general inquiries.

Building relationships with customers to encourage repeat visits and long-term support for our artists.

Logistics & Inventory Management:

Safely packaging and shipping artwork to customers (domestic and international) according to established gallery standards.

Accurately organizing, tagging, and tracking inventory to ensure a smooth flow of new and sold pieces.

Assistance with updating the website (Square).

Assisting management with general gallery opening and closing procedures.

Artist Relations & Communication:

Communicating professionally with represented artists regarding inventory, special event participation, or documentation needs.

Serving as a key communication link by providing thorough, timely reports and notes to bridge weekend and weekday staff.

Contributing ideas to enhance our education, programming, and outreach to the community and our artists.

Assisting with light administrative tasks and content creation for social media/promotional use.

What You Bring:

1-2 years of professional working experience in sales, retail, or a customer-facing role.

Proven success in sales with a strong understanding of customer relations.

Experience with detailed administrative or logistical tasks, such as inventory management, packaging, or shipping (art/fragile goods experience is a major plus).

A keen eye for visual design, display, and a genuine interest in art, craft, and art history (especially Vermont-made).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with customers and artists.

Proficiency with technology, including POS systems and Google products (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar).

A collaborative, flexible, and self-motivated work style, comfortable jumping between projects in a fast-paced retail environment.

Availability to work a set schedule that includes weekends.

Frog Hollow Craft Gallery was founded in 1971, Frog Hollow Craft Association was named the nation's first state craft center in 1975. Located on Church Street in downtown Burlington, we display and sell a unique collection of fine traditional and contemporary art and craft from over 120 Vermont artists.
