Responsible for supporting the ambulatory pharmacy clinicians in all aspects of patient care to allow the clinicians to work at the top of their license. Working under the supervision of the pharmacist, acts as the liaison between the patient and the ambulatory pharmacy clinician as well as the patient’s providers, pharmacy, and insurance. Responsible for streamlining and facilitating patient care which includes reviewing the electronic health record (EHR), sending and managing messages in the EHR, problem solving and appointment scheduling. Other responsibilities may include refilling medications, placing lab orders, providing education, answering the phone, assisting with medication prior authorizations, and abstracting lab results, medications and immunizations. Functions within the guidelines of the Wisconsin Statutes and Administrative Code - Pharmacy Examining Board - Pharmacy Practice Sections.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in pharmacy, healthcare, managed care, or other health insurance environment is required.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Graduate of ASHP accredited pharmacy tech training program preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:
Proven attention to detail with ability to effectively and efficiently multi-task. Effective customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop collaborative alliances, promote teamwork and ensure a high degree of internal and external customer satisfaction. Outstanding organizational, follow-up, and time management skills. Comfort with technology and commonly used electronic applications (such as Microsoft Office, email, internet). Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and discern when it is appropriate to hand off a task. Ability to function in a fast paced and changing environment and balance multiple priorities. Ability to problem solve as needed within a timely manner.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
Application for Wisconsin registration as a Pharmacy Technician is required by hire date and must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
Staff hired into this role prior to 3/31/23 must have applied for Wisconsin registration by 3/31/23 and have until 3/31/24 to obtain registration.
Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcare Association (ExCPT) required within the first 6 months of hire.
