What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Landscape Designer position at Frisella Nursery?
Job description:
For more than 73 years, we’ve been designing landscapes meant to last—both in the ground and in the lives of the people who experience them.
We are a privately owned, multi-generation firm with a clear succession plan and a long-term vision: to create thoughtful, enduring landscapes for discerning residential and commercial clients, while building a studio where designers can do the most meaningful work of their careers.
We’re looking for a Senior Landscape Designer who leads with design excellence, communicates ideas with confidence, and values collaboration as part of the creative process.
A Design-First Role (With Real Responsibility)
This role is for a designer who wants to:
- Lead design from concept through approval
- Work closely with clients who value quality and taste
- Design with strong plant knowledge, material sensitivity, and spatial clarity
- See their ideas realized through close collaboration with experienced teams
You’ll be trusted with creative leadership, client relationships, and meaningful responsibility—without being pulled into construction management.
What You’ll Be Designing
- Luxury residential landscapes with architectural clarity and restraint
- Experiential commercial and institutional environments
- Projects where planting, hardscape, and spatial sequencing matter
- Work that values longevity, not trends
If your background includes studios like Hoerr & Schaudt, Mariani Landscape, SWT, or similar design-led firms, you’ll feel at home here.
How We Work (Without the Buzzwords)
We believe:
- Strong ideas deserve thoughtful execution
- Collaboration improves design outcomes
- Clarity early leads to better work later
- Design excellence and professional discipline go hand in hand
This is a place where good design is respected—and supported.
Who Thrives Here
You’ll likely enjoy this role if you:
- Care deeply about design quality and planting
- Enjoy presenting and refining ideas with clients
- Value working within a thoughtful, professional studio environment
- Want long-term growth, not just your next project
This probably isn’t the right seat if you prefer working in isolation or chasing personal spotlight over collective success.
Experience We’re Looking For
- 5 years of professional landscape design experience
- Strong planting knowledge and design judgment
- Comfort presenting and selling design ideas
- Vectorworks experience strongly preferred
- Luxury residential or experiential commercial experience
- Landscape Architecture licensure (or path toward licensure) is a plus
*Why This Is a Rare Opportunity*
- A design-forward studio inside a stable, 73-year privately owned company
- Clear leadership, clear succession, and long-term thinking
- Premier clients and meaningful projects
- Compensation that rewards both design excellence and contribution
*The Bottom Line*
This is a role for a designer who wants their work—and their career—to endure.
- If you’re looking for a studio that values taste, collaboration, and longevity as much as creativity, we should talk.ojects is a plus.
