Responsibilities

  • Create a student-centered learning environment that promotes high academic achievement, innovation, collaboration, problem solving and student ownership of learning through hands-on STEM instruction and project-based learning experiences.
  • Provide daily instruction to middle and/or high school students in STEM-related content areas including computer science, robotics, engineering, emerging technologies and innovation-focused coursework aligned to Friendship’s curriculum and instructional standards.
  • Design and implement engaging, project-based learning experiences that integrate technical skills, critical thinking, creativity and real-world application of STEM concepts.
  • Develop and deliver instructional materials, lesson plans, assessments and differentiated learning experiences that support varying student learning needs, interests and academic goals.
  • Facilitate student learning through the use of instructional technology, robotics platforms, fabrication tools, coding applications, multimedia resources and other emerging educational technologies.
  • Assess student progress regularly through formal and informal assessments and use student performance data to inform instructional planning and improve student achievement outcomes.
  • Maintain an organized, safe and engaging Innovation Lab environment that supports hands-on learning, responsible technology use, collaboration and student creativity.
  • Support students in developing technical, academic and professional skills through participation in STEM competitions, certification opportunities, project showcases, enrichment programming and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations, higher education institutions, industry professionals and community partners to expand access to STEM learning experiences and career exploration opportunities for students.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families and school-based staff regarding student progress, academic expectations, project outcomes and opportunities for student growth and enrichment.
  • Collaborate with instructional leaders, teachers and network staff to strengthen interdisciplinary learning opportunities, share best practices and support continuous improvement in STEM education programming throughout the Friendship network.

Qualifications

    • Experience in STEM, computer science, robotics, engineering, innovation lab instruction or related technical instructional environments preferred
    • Background or experience in Science, Computer Technology, Math, Graphic Design, Entrepreneurial/Business Development, AV equipment or related technical fields strongly preferred
    • Basic desktop navigation and troubleshooting skills required
    • Commitment to providing a world-class education to students from historically underserved communities
    • 5 years of teaching experience required
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Educational Technology, Robotics, Science, Math or a closely related STEM field from an accredited university required
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and above preferred
    • Demonstrated experience delivering instruction in STEM, computer science, robotics, engineering, innovation or technology-focused coursework with evidence of strong student engagement and academic growth
    • Experience designing and facilitating project-based learning experiences that integrate technical skills, critical thinking, collaboration and real-world application preferred
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to create inclusive, student-centered learning environments that support differentiated instruction and foster creativity, innovation and problem solving
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage instructional materials, lab resources, technical equipment and multiple student projects simultaneously
