Job Description
At Friendship Public Charter School, the Dyslexia Interventionist plays a critical role in ensuring all scholars achieve literacy success. Under the direction of the Principal and in collaboration with the Special Education and Academic teams, this position provides targeted, research-based dyslexia intervention to scholars identified with reading difficulties. The Dyslexia Interventionist delivers structured, multisensory instruction to accelerate reading achievement and support scholars in reaching grade-level proficiency.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction & Intervention
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based dyslexia intervention using structured literacy approaches
- Provide small group and individualized instruction focused on:
- Phonological and phonemic awareness
- Sound-symbol correspondence
- Decoding and encoding (spelling)
- Fluency and comprehension
- Utilize a multisensory approach to ensure access and engagement for all learners.
- Maintain a strong focus on accelerating scholar achievement and closing literacy gaps.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Conduct dyslexia screenings and analyze literacy data to identify scholars in need of intervention.
- Monitor scholar progress regularly and adjust instruction to ensure measurable growth.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation aligned with Friendship’s data-driven instructional model.
Collaboration & Scholar Support
- Partner with general education teachers, Special Education staff, and instructional leaders to align intervention with core instruction.
- Support the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans for eligible scholars.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding scholar progress and provide strategies for at-home support.
Curriculum & Program Implementation
- Implement and adapt structured literacy curricula to meet diverse scholar needs.
- Ensure fidelity to intervention programs while personalizing instruction.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by using data to refine instructional practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid AR teaching certification required.
- Training in dyslexia or structured literacy programs strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience teaching reading and supporting struggling readers, particularly in an urban school setting.
