Friends Veterinary Specialty and Emergency is seeking compassionate, skilled veterinary nurses to join our growing team. We are a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital in Bucks County, privately owned by local veterinarians, and we are searching for highly motivated veterinary team members

At Friends VSE, we recognize the essential role veterinary nurses play in delivering exceptional patient care. We are seeking skilled and detail-oriented Veterinary Emergency & Treatment nurses to join our specialty and emergency team. This role is responsible for providing both in-patient and out-patient treatments, assisting with various procedures and working closely with emergency veterinarians and specialty teams to ensure the highest level of patient care.

We welcome all motivated nurses, whether you are just starting out or have previous experience. You will work closely with our CSRs, assistants, nurses (CVT/VTS), ER veterinarians, and board-certified specialists, gaining valuable skills and experience in a supportive, team-oriented environment while making a real difference in pets’ lives.

Compensation: starting at $22/hr compensation will depend on skill, experience, and shift

Key Responsibilities

Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients, including basic monitoring, administering medications, venipuncture and feeding

Accurately triage incoming patients, perform physical assessments, and obtain histories from pet owners

Help the emergency teams with stabilization of critical patients, including CPR

Collect and prepare samples for lab submission and point-of-care testing

Maintain proper radiographic technique by ensuring correct patient positioning, adherence to radiation safety protocols, and acquisition of high-quality diagnostic images while prioritizing patient comfort and minimizing repeat exposures

Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications

Have a basic understanding of medication side effects and adverse medical reactions

Be able to administer and monitor intravenous fluid and drug therapy

Assist veterinarians during diagnostics, procedures, and surgery using low-stress handling techniques

Perform sample collection, lab work, and diagnostic testing

Educate pet owners on treatments, medications, and post-procedure care

Maintain accurate patient records and communicate updates to the care team

Participate in continuing education to remain current with advances in veterinary emergency and critical care

Assist with client communication

Requirements

Education & Credentials

Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT), with preference given to candidates with VTS certification

Unlicensed veterinary nurses with emergency and/or specialty experience are also encouraged to apply

References may be required

Skills & Qualifications

Ability to think critically while maintaining a strong attention to detail

Basic computer proficiency with practice management software, electronic medical records, and team collaboration platforms

Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills with both team members and clients

Strong mathematical proficiency, including accurate drug dose calculations, CRI rate determinations, fluid therapy planning, and real-time critical calculations in high-acuity situations

Physical ability to stand/move around for extended periods of time, kneel, and work at floor level for the larger patients

The ability to lift patients independently (up to 40 pounds)

Ability to handle patients of all sizes and temperaments

Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required in a 24/7 hospital setting
