Director of Teaching and Learning (2026-2027 School Year)

The Director of Teaching and Learning is a pedagogical leader who promotes excellence, innovation, and coherence in teaching and curricular practice across the school. Grounded in Quaker values and mindful of the emotional, intellectual, and social development of students, the Director supports faculty in delivering a mission-aligned, inquiry-driven, and equity-centered educational program. The Director collaborates with administrators and faculty to ensure that teaching is reflective, research-informed, and responsive to diverse learners. This position will begin August 1, 2026.

• Oversee the development, review, alignment, and documentation of curriculum across divisions.
• Ensure that curriculum reflects Quaker testimonies (Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, Stewardship) and the school’s mission.
• Guide departments and teams in setting learning goals, assessing student outcomes, and refining instructional practices.
• Maintain an up-to-date curriculum map and oversee academic program evaluation cycles.

• Mentor and coach faculty in instructional strategies, classroom management, assessment design, and inclusive pedagogy.
• Design and facilitate ongoing professional development grounded in current research, Quaker process, and school priorities.
• Support new teacher orientation and provide ongoing coaching throughout the year.
• Collaborate with division heads on faculty evaluation, goal-setting, and growth plans.

• Promote student-centered, inquiry-based, and experiential learning consistent with Friends education.
• Facilitate the integration of educational technology to support meaningful learning.
• Stay informed about educational research and best practices; share insights with faculty and school leadership.
• Lead or support strategic initiatives related to academic program improvement.
• Ensure curriculum and instructional practices reflect diverse perspectives and foster a sense of belonging for all students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education or related field strongly preferred.
• Significant teaching experience, ideally in an independent or Friends school environment.
• Demonstrated leadership in curriculum design, instructional coaching, or academic administration.
• Familiarity with and appreciation for Quaker educational philosophy; willingness to engage in Quaker practices.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the growth of all members of the school community.
