Position Summary:
Friends of the Children – Houston is seeking an experienced Grant Financial Services Manager (contractor) to support the financial management of our grant portfolio, including foundation, corporate, and government grants. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in grant budgeting, financial reporting, expense review, and compliance monitoring, with particular strength using Excel for grant tracking and reporting. Government grant financial management experience is highly preferred.
The contractor will work closely with the Executive Director and key staff to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely financial management of all grant awards.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop grant budgets and revisions in collaboration with leadership.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for grants as required by funders, including detailed expenditure reports.
Review and approve grant-related expenses for compliance with grant agreements and internal policies.
Maintain and update grant financial tracking systems using Excel.
Support the development of grant forecasts and financial projections.
Prepare documentation and support grant audits or site visits by funders.
Assist in government grant invoicing and financial reporting (familiarity with government grant platforms a plus).
Monitor budget to actuals for each grant and proactively flag any concerns.
Collaborate with the team to ensure grant funds are spent in alignment with programmatic goals and timelines.
Participate in monthly financial review meetings to discuss grant status.
Maintain organized grant financial files and support compliance with funder and organizational requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in nonprofit grant financial management.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including creating templates, formulas, pivot tables, and financial tracking models).
- Experience developing and managing grant budgets.
- Experience with financial reporting for foundation, corporate, and/or government grants.
- Knowledge of allowable costs under federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
- Prior experience managing financials for grants funded by city, county, state, or federal agencies.
- Familiarity with grant management software or accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar) a plus.
- Based in the Greater Houston area.
