What are the responsibilities and job description for the Guest Services Coordinator position at Friends of San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden?
We are looking for a highly organized candidate with excellent people skills for the position of guest service coordinator and gift shop manager. The guest services coordinator will ensure guests have great experience. They will be responsible for managing the gift shop which includes volunteers, artist consignment, general merchandise, admission, and various administrative tasks. The position requires working with the public, staff, and the Executive Director to generate operating revenue for the Garden. This is a part-time position, hired by and directly accountable to the Executive Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Greet garden visitors and collect admissions fees, donations, membership dues and renewals from garden visitors.
2. Communicate with guests to describe the garden experience and encourage and complete transactions in the gift shop.
3. Provide outstanding customer service and engage in suggestive selling, marketing, and outreach.
4. Oversee the daily operation of the gift shop by scheduling attendees and qualified volunteers to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, and service.
5. Manage merchandising, display, stocking, tracking and pricing of the inventory.
6. Communicate with local artists and keep inventories of goods.
7. Perform cash-handling functions, including point-of-sale (POS) system, registers, barcode systems, and daily reporting.
8. Assist in other garden retail functions as they arise.
9. Other Duties
o Answering the phone.
o Opening and closing gift shop and restrooms as needed.
o Assist in marketing and outreach.
o Oversee volunteers as needed.
o As determined by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Candidates must have 2 years of customer service experience, exceptional interpersonal skills, a positive and friendly demeanor in all guest interactions, excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to use a computer and other office technology, proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Applications, experience with CRM and databases is desired, an eye for detail, good management and organizational skills, patience and good listening skills, and the ability to lead and be part of a team. Experience utilizing basic math skills, knowledge and understanding of non-profits and their role in the community; and a commitment to SLOBG’s goals and mission are required.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that to be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may include need for regular bending, lifting, walking on uneven terrain. Position includes working in an outside environment.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or ability to obtain one. Valid Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED certification within 6 months of appointment to position.
