Duties
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, and feeding to promote independence and well-being
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates with precision and attention to detail
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper documentation in electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner
- Implement infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or memory impairments in memory or behavioral health units
- Operate patient lifts such as Hoyer lifts safely to prevent injury during transfers and mobility assistance
- Document patient observations accurately in medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in acute care, ICU, emergency medicine, or post-acute settings to deliver comprehensive patient care
- Support patients with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs by applying compassionate caregiving techniques
- Assist with procedures like catheter care or phlebotomy when trained and authorized to do so
Experience
Candidates should demonstrate experience working in various healthcare environments including hospitals (Level I Trauma Centers, Level II Trauma Centers), nursing homes, assisted living facilities, outpatient clinics, or home & community care. Prior exposure to medical-surgical units, ICU settings such as PICU or NICU, hospice care, urgent care centers, or behavioral health units is highly valued. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks is preferred. Candidates with critical care experience—including trauma centers or emergency medicine—will find this role especially fulfilling. Experience working with diverse populations such as pediatrics or geriatrics is advantageous. A strong foundation in medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, physiology principles, and infection control practices is essential. Certification in basic life support (BLS) and adherence to HIPAA standards are required for all applicants.
