What are the responsibilities and job description for the Retail Sales Associate position at Friendly Paws Pet Supplies & Grooming?

We’re a small, locally owned pet supply store looking for a friendly, outgoing team member who enjoys helping customers, learning new things, and being part of a business that supports pets, rescue organizations and their people. We are looking for a long term hire, this is not a summer position. Most of our employees have been with us for at least 3 years.
What we’re looking for:
- Someone who enjoys sales and building relationships with customers
- An engaging outgoing personality and strong communication skills; including the telephone
- A self-starter who can think independently and jump in feet first
- Computer savvy and able to multitask (for real)
- Ability to accept feedback, learn quickly, and adapt
- Dependable, positive, and comfortable working both with a team and independently
- Must genuinely like cats!
What you’ll do:
- Help customers find the right products for their pets
- Learn about pet nutrition, supplies, and specialty products; extensive training provided
- Stock, organize, clean, and keep the store looking great
- Take photos of customer pets throughout your shift for social media
- Take care of adoptable cat/s and their area - this includes cleaning litter boxes and dishes - but it also includes playing with them.
- Schedule grooming appointments
- Pitch in wherever needed to create an exceptional customer experience
Hours Available:
- Weekday shift: 2:00 PM – 7:30 PM
- Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Possibly Wednesdays 10 AM -2 PM
- Requires two Saturdays per month
Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 40lbs repeatedly, no back problems
- Must be able to stand for the entire shift - up to 7 hrs
- Must be dependable - we are a small staff so calling off repeatedly does not work for our shop
- Must have your own reliable transportation
Pay:
- $15/hour after training and once you are able to work independently
- VERY genrous store discount - all products at cost
- We are flexible with time off when given plenty of notice
