Job Summary
The School Accounting Technician provides clerical and technical support for district accounting and financial operations. This position is responsible for processing accounts payable, requisitions, and vendor payments; maintaining accurate financial records; ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements; and assisting with reporting and documentation. The Accounting Technician communicates regularly with vendors, staff, and outside agencies to resolve discrepancies and support efficient business operations. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy school district environment.

Essential Job Functions
- Perform departmental and program accounting functions, including processing accounts payable, requisitions, and vendor payments; tracking and reconciling account activity; and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Communicate with vendors regarding invoices, statements and procurement processes; follow up on overdue payments or discrepancies to ensure timely resolution.
- Ensure vendor information is accurate and compliant, including billing information, tax-exempt status, W-9 forms, and certificates; maintain records for 1099 reporting.
- Process wire transfers, tax payments, and other required payments (e.g., IRS, state and child support).
- Assist with tracking, reviewing, and maintaining a variety of fiscal documents, reports, and information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- A.A. degree preferred; High School education or equivalent with applicable post-high school training in accounting and 1 to 3 years in any of the major areas of responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability in the use of computerized spreadsheets, word processing, and database management.
- Experience in school district finance, UFARS, and TIES financial accounting desired but not required.
Skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate financial records and reconcile accounts.
- Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and office applications.
- Ability to analyze data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Positive customer service skills when working with vendors, staff, and outside agencies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a busy office environment.
- Familiarity with standard office equipment (copiers, scanners, fax machines, etc.).
- Ability to follow directions from supervisors and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters, particularly related to financial and personnel information.
