Responsibilities
- Fabricate parts using 3-axis CNC/manual mills, manual lathe and related metal working equipment and machinery.
- Collaborate with production operators, process technicians and maintenance personnel in resolving mold, fixture, tools, dies, and mandrel problems using systematic methods of troubleshooting.
- When necessary, design tooling using CAD based software – including fixtures and production related components for various production equipment.
- Review tooling requests sent to the toolroom and work with Engineering to prioritize the projects to keep production and new programs deliverables delivery dates.
- Perform root cause analysis, corrective action implementation and documentation.
- Maintain the equipment and order preventive maintenance to keep all equipment in the shop in safe working condition.
- Manage inventory of cutting tools and other toolroom consumables and keep the shop clean and organized.
- As needed, send items such as tooling, components and other items to be machined at outside approved vendors.
- Assist with mechanical subassemblies.
- Rework of molded parts, tooling, molds, and fixturing.
- Report project status to management or project teams.
- Design Tooling and create cutter paths for use in tooling equipment in the toolroom.
- Promote adherence to company policies and standards on safety, ergonomics, proper housekeeping (5S), and clean room GMP.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification is preferred.
- Experience in tool repair, support, and maintenance to a manufacturing environment specializing in medical grade silicone extrusion and molding processes or other industry with intricate, tight tolerance requirements.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks, MasterCAM, CNC equipment, conventional mills, lathes, and surface grinding.
- Capable of measurement techniques using indicators, sine-plates, and the creation of measurement fixtures to measure complex geometries.
- Experience using precision tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and 3D CAD files.
- Ability to design simple mechanical components from concepts and documents.
- Effective communication skills required to work with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems in an organized manner.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with minimum supervision, establishes priorities, and report job status accurately and in a timely manner.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to quality and precision.
- Moderate Work, position involves sitting, standing and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects.
- Feeling-ability to discern physical attributes of objects including weight, shape and temperature by touch, especially fingertips.
- Fingering-ability to pick, push or press with fingertips rather than hand or arm.
- Grasping-ability to apply pressure to an object with fingers and palm of hand.
