JOB SUMMARY
Community Builders report to an assigned Program Manager and Project Coordinator and assist in formulating, developing, and implementing specific projects and/or initiatives to enhance community well-being. Under general guidance and direction, Community Builders are accountable for their assigned projects' day-to-day implementation and operation. Work includes listening to, understanding, and engaging community stakeholders in learning about and addressing issues and concerns. The ideal candidate has community outreach experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Related experience in CalFresh enrollment is preferred but not necessary, as training will be provided. Additionally, interest in community food systems (i.e., community gardens, access to healthy food, etc.) is a plus.
The Community Builders will be involved in a range of engagement and evaluation activities in one or more efforts at a time, including but not limited to projects such as: CalFresh, food recovery-distribution, community garden development, and assessment, cooking skills and nutrition education, gleaning, community health needs studies, assessments and improvement plan formulation, urban land use and transportation planning, clean energy and air quality improvement, neighborhood leadership and association building, and community, workforce, economic and entrepreneurship development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

In the spirit of cooperation and teamwork, it is expected that all employees will do whatever is necessary to further the mission and work of Fresno Metro Ministry.
Foster new, long-standing relationships with various entities to actively participate in the Food to Share Recovery Network. These entities can be food donor organizations or receiver organizations that believe in being great stewards that prevent edible food waste, diminish greenhouse emissions and feed families.
Develop working relationships with various Community-Based Organizations to serve as host venue sites for Cooking Matters, a hands-on cooking and nutrition course.
Serve as lead instructor for Cooking Matters classes for the FUSD afterschool and summer classes (must have 48 completed college credits and pass FUSD fingerprinting).
Implement outreach to recruit volunteer chefs, nutritionists/dieticians, and assistants to work alongside Nutrition Education & Outreach staff in Cooking Matters course facilitation.
Implement outreach to recruit parents and caregivers with children under the age of 18 to participate in free Cooking Matters courses.
Assist Nutrition Education & Outreach Program Manager and Project Coordinator in facilitating Cooking Matters Classes, including shopping, pre-class set-up, course implementation, and post-class clean-up.
Input data related to Cooking Matters surveys.
Conduct outreach activities to promote the CalFresh Program and MediCal.
Have excellent communication skills and cultural awareness to convey CalFresh and MediCal Program eligibility rules, pre-screen interested solicitors, and offer application assistance.
Use the California Department of Social Services Data Dashboard to determine populations for targeted outreach for the CalFresh Program.
Track contact and demographic information related to CalFresh and MediCal applicants.
Assist Nutrition Education & Outreach Program Manager and Project Coordinator in completing grant reports and grant deliverables.
Actively reaches out to develop positive working relationships and engage residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to gain insight and understand their perspectives regarding critical issues, problems, and concerns affecting the quality of life within their community.
Uses knowledge and information gained from community contacts to assist in project assessment, planning, and implementation.
Provides information to community stakeholders concerning Fresno Metro Ministry projects and initiatives, as well those initiated by partner organizations, and encourages their support and participation.
Plan, recruit participants, and conduct community information gathering, surveys, interviews, assessments, and evaluation.
Facilitate face-to-face individual, community focus group meetings, and cooking demonstrations.
Maintains a database of community contacts including residents and business owners.
Represents Fresno Metro Ministry as an organization and actively participates in community meetings and activities related to Metro projects and initiatives.
Assists in the evaluation of program efficiency and effectiveness through the use of internally developed benchmark data and indices with an emphasis on outcomes, accountability, and program sustainability.
Engage community members and relevant stakeholders in the development and integration of a Fresno County Food Policy Council.
Provide technical, logistical and administrative support to all Fresno Metro Food to Share programs.
Uses knowledge and information gained from community contacts to assist in project assessment, planning, and implementation.
Provides information to community stakeholders concerning Fresno Metro Ministry projects and initiatives, as well those initiated by partner organizations, and encourages their support and participation.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Proven community outreach experience
Experience teaching or working with children of various ages
A proven commitment to the mission and vision of Fresno Metro Ministry
Bi-lingual and bi-literate skills are preferred (Spanish/English and/or Hmong/English) depending on the project assignment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Canva, Word, and Excel.
Experience with or the ability to learn and gain proficiency with website administration as well as the ability to learn and use specialty software.
Skill and comfort in communicating orally and in writing with groups of all sizes, in person, and through electronic media.
Experience working in an elementary classroom setting is preferred.
Experience in mentoring, training, motivating and providing leadership and direction to community volunteers.
Experience in organizational and community development.
The ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Capable of managing multiple tasks and thrive in a deadline-driven environment with frequently changing priorities.
Must have a valid California driver's license; maintain state minimum levels of auto insurance, a clean driving record, the ability to be covered by the agency's insurance carrier, and reliable transportation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
An Associates or Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a field relevant to the position's assigned project area preferred. Completion of 48 college credits required. Three or more years of progressively responsible and diverse experience, preferably in a not-for-profit setting, with demonstrated effectiveness in community organizing and leadership. Personal qualities that include honesty, integrity and a commitment to Fresno Metro Ministry as well as the ability to inspire and motivate others.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is generally performed in an environmentally controlled setting. Events may be conducted indoors or outdoors in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Employee is regularly required to sit; stand, walk and climb stairs, speak and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use fingers and hands repetitively to operate office equipment including keyboards and to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or bend and may lift up to 50 pounds. COMPENSATION
The anticipated starting rate for this position is $19 an hour. As this position is full-time, employer-funded health benefits will be provided.
