SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
SUMMARY
The Driver in Training position is a temporary role lasting up to six (6) weeks. It is designed for participants enrolled in the Fresno EOC Commercial Driver Training Program to gain hands-on training and instruction toward obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement.
Assist in the fulfillment of the Agency’s vision, “A strong Fresno County where people have resources to shape their future free from poverty.”
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Learn to safely transport passengers between designated pick-up and drop-off locations under the direct supervision of a Transit Supervisor or authorized trainer.
Learn and apply proper procedures to ensure all passengers are correctly secured prior to vehicle movement, including use of seatbelts and wheelchair securement systems.
Learn to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and related equipment for safe passenger loading and unloading.
Learn proper methods for securing wheelchairs and mobility devices and ensuring all equipment is safely stowed before vehicle operation.
Develop positive, professional rapport with passengers and practice courteous customer service skills.
Learn to operate vehicles in varying weather, road, and terrain conditions in accordance with training and agency policies.
Learn to use two-way radios, tablets, GPS, and other onboard technology to support safe and efficient service delivery.
Learn and practice appropriate responses to emergency situations in accordance with training and agency procedures.
Learn to perform, document, and submit daily pre-trip, post-trip, and vehicle condition reports.
Learn to read, interpret, and follow maps, schedules, and GPS navigation systems.
Learn to perform basic arithmetic calculations related to routes, timekeeping, and fare collection.
Learn proper procedures for collecting fares and scrip tickets in accordance with agency policy.
Participate in training-related travel using personal or agency vehicles as required.
Demonstrate reliability by maintaining regular attendance, punctuality, and adherence to assigned training schedules.
Travels for agency business using reliable transportation.
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
Works evenings and weekends as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE:
None.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must possess and maintain acceptable DMV driving history.
Pass required drug and alcohol testing prior to employment; will be subject to continual urine and breath alcohol testing throughout employment.
Must be enrolled in the Fresno EOC Commercial Driver Training Program for Passenger Endorsement Transportation class.
Maintain valid California driver's license and the minimum auto insurance as required by state law, or reliable transportation. For those driving agency vehicles, must maintain insurability under agency policy.
