The Role
FreshDirect is currently seeking a Jr. Culinary Roundsman in Training in the New York City area. This position is responsible for learning all positions of the day-to-day production of the specific HMR work center ensuring the highest-level quality of service provided by our associates, while supporting the policies, goal, and objectives of the company.
What You’ll Do
Understand and ensure compliance with: Food Safety, GMP’s Safety & Sanitation compliance and FD’s Quality policies; as well as ensure that the work area is safe, clean and organized for all team members to work. Learn to work in all positions related to the production of that work center and to ensure all production is completed. Ensure accuracy of all order fulfillment, processing, and production requirements. Work with all staff members, Team Leader, Supervisor, and Manager when issues arise. Offer suggestions on how to change and/or make work load easier and more efficient. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. In a workday: standing/walking 6-10 hours or more Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals, loud noises, flashing lights Constant exposure to temperatures: <-10 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators)Ability to work in a wet and cold environment Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery Ability to work in other areas of the business as needed

The Role

What You’ll Do
- Basic computer knowledge
- Experience with Cook & Chill process a plus
- Safe Knife skills, kitchen safety awareness
- NYC Food Protection Certificate or equivalent a big plus?
- Ability to learn and comply with General Manufacturing Practices
- Knowledge of FIFO, inventory, labeling, and Food Safety
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standard
