Summary
The Director of the Center for Sustainable Communities (CSC) provides leadership, vision, and direction to all of Luther’s sustainability efforts while working collaboratively with campus and community partners. The Director is the face and voice of the CSC and is responsible for implementing programs that serve the Center’s mission to promote sustainability and be a catalyst for change on campus and throughout the Upper Midwest. A successful candidate will articulate and implement a vision for the role of a sustainability center in a college environment, will possess knowledge and passion about sustainability and the skills to collaborate and innovate while working closely with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
Salary: $54,500-$67,500
ESSENTIAL DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIES
- Campus Operations: Provide oversight and direction to campus sustainability operations including strategies for meeting Luther’s climate neutrality goals and integrating sustainability into all aspects of college operations.
- Student Engagement: Implement sustainability education and outreach programs, workshops, and activities for Luther College students. Work with partners to integrate sustainability into campus programming and to engage students in experiential learning.
- Community Engagement: Collaborate and connect with community partners, including schools, to advance the mission and vision of the Center for Sustainable Communities
- Pre-College Programming: Develop and implement programs for high school students including a summer camp focused on sustainability.
- Curriculum and research: In collaboration with the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), provide support for incorporating sustainability into the curriculum and student-faculty research.
- Recruitment: Work with Admissions and faculty to recruit students to Luther, including assisting with administering scholarships.
- Fundraising: Work collaboratively with the Advancement team to seek grants and cultivate donors to support the CSC and related Luther initiatives.
- New opportunities: In addition to maintaining existing programs and initiatives, the new director will have the opportunity to shape the work of the Center.
- The director will supervise 1 full time staff plus work study students
- Education: Masters degree required. Graduate degree in sustainability, sustainable development, environmental science/ studies, environmental education, or closely related field preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in higher education and/or sustainability.
- Passion for and knowledge of sustainability efforts in a liberal arts college context o Experience working on sustainability programs or initiatives on a college campus and/or in the local community
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Strong speaking, listening, and writing skills
- Grant-writing and fundraising skills
- Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills including ability to manage budgets and supervise staff
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college
- Experience successfully implementing and leading sustainability change programs on college campuses and/or in local communities
- Successful track record of grant-writing and fundraising
- Some lifting; majority of work will be in an office environment
