Purpose and Scope:
As part of the dialysis healthcare team, this role provides safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under direct supervision of a licensed nurse, adhering to organization policies, procedures, and training, as well as regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies.
Key Responsibilities include setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean working environment, and supporting quality enhancement programs.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Patient Care
- Educate patients and family members on dialysis therapy, access, and disease process.
- Welcome assigned patients, take vital signs, and evaluate vascular access.
- Initiate and monitor dialysis treatment, intervening as necessary.
- Document patient information and vital signs.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and timely documentation.
2. Staff Support and Education
- Assist in training direct care staff on appropriate programs.
- Maintain environmental integrity, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
- Prepare equipment and supplies for dialysis treatments.
- Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation, including alarm testing.
3. Infection Control
- Collect information for infection control audits.
- Support staff and patient adherence to infection control practices.
- Participate in and reinforce infection control education.
4. Transitional Care Unit
- Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis.
- Liaise with FKC staff to provide the best patient experience.
- Assist in coordinating transitions to home dialysis options.
