As part of our continued growth, Fresca Foods is launching a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility featuring high-speed production lines and advanced automation. With production slated to begin in October, we are actively building our team now—bringing in key talent early to support equipment installation, process development, and operational readiness. Position Overview:
The Maintenance Technician III – is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing highly automated manufacturing and packaging systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production of natural and organic baked goods.
This role operates at a system level across fully integrated lines including but not limited to automated ingredient delivery, mixing and extrusion, enrobing systems, and robotic packaging. The technician is expected to drive equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
Essential Functions:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair highly automated production and packaging systems, including:
- Automated ingredient handling and batching systems
- Mixing and extrusion equipment
- Chocolate enrobing and finishing systems
- High-speed packaging lines with robotic cartoning and case packing
- Perform advanced multi-craft troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and controls systems.
- Interface with PLC/HMI systems to interpret faults, diagnose issues, and support controls-level troubleshooting.
- Execute and continuously improve preventive maintenance (PM) and support predictive maintenance (PdM) initiatives.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Optimize equipment performance by improving uptime, throughput, and changeover efficiency (OEE focus).
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and system layouts to support troubleshooting and modifications.
- Perform fabrication, modification, and assembly of mechanical components and equipment as needed.
- Support installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment and system upgrades.
- Maintain accurate records in CMMS (eMaint) including work orders, parts usage, and failure data.
- Identify and communicate spare parts requirements; support inventory accuracy and critical spares strategy.
- Maintain and repair conveyor systems, pump/vacuum systems, and utility systems supporting production.
- Train and mentor maintenance technicians and operators on equipment operation and basic care.
- Promote and enforce safety, LOTO, and GMP compliance, ensuring all work protects food safety and product integrity.
- Support TPM initiatives, including Planned Maintenance and operator basic care (autonomous maintenance).
- Take immediate action to address any food safety risk, including stopping production if necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong multi-craft capability across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
- Demonstrated expertise in automated manufacturing and integrated production lines
- Working knowledge of:
- PLC systems and I/O troubleshooting
- VFDs, motors, drives, and motion systems
- Pneumatics and basic hydraulics
- Sensors, vision systems, and automation components
- Ability to troubleshoot system-level issues across upstream and downstream processes
- Experience with high-speed packaging systems and robotics preferred
- Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies
- Proven ability to identify and implement equipment reliability and efficiency improvements
- Knowledge of food manufacturing, GMPs, and sanitary design principles
- Proficiency using CMMS (e.g., eMaint)
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade certification preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in highly automated manufacturing environments (food, beverage, or CPG strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated experience supporting integrated processing and packaging systems
- Experience with robotics and automation systems preferred
Work Environment: Physical & Mental Requirements
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
- Stand/walk for extended periods (10–12 hour shifts)
- Bend, stoop, squat, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
- Operate power tools and maintenance equipment
- Work in hot and cold environments and moderate noise levels
- Exposure to common food allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, gluten, eggs)
- Ability to safely work around moving machinery and magnetic fields
- Adhere to all food safety, GMP, and PPE requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability in high-pressure situations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities without loss of accuracy
- Maintain focus in a fast-paced, interruption-driven environment
- Ability to interpret technical information and execute accordingly
- Effective communication across all levels of the organization
- Proficiency with digital tools (CMMS, tablets, mobile devices)
