What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Science Teacher position at French American School of Rhode Island?
The French American School of Rhode Island (FASRI) is seeking a Middle School Science Teacher starting January 4, 2027. This is a 0.5 FTE (part-time) position for the 2026/2027 school year.
FASRI provides students from PK1 through 8th grade with a blended French-American program that aligns with the guidelines of the French Ministry of Education (AEFE accreditation) and the Rhode Island Department of Education (NEASC accreditation). In the Middle School, the Science Teacher delivers instruction in English following American science standards. FASRI’s middle school is a small, close-knit community where students regularly engage in inter-grade projects and activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Grades 6, 7, and 8 using the FOSS 3-year science curriculum, following a rotating, multi-grade program where all three grades cover the same content standards each year.
- Implement hands-on, concept-based, and project-based learning activities to build students' content knowledge and foster their application of the scientific method.
- Work collaboratively with a team of five middle school colleagues to support students' overall adolescent development (academic growth, social-emotional skills, and character development).
- Optionally lead the year-round, science-based "Coast to Coast" program in partnership with another school in the US French American school network, which includes a student exchange trip component.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching science at the middle school level
- Deep understanding of adolescent development and middle school student dynamics
- Current, valid US work authorization
- Strong collaborative mindset, openness to reflection and innovation, and a positive attitude
- Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning tools
- Experience or curiosity in working in a multilingual, multicultural environment
