The Head of Middle School is responsible for leading and managing the overall operations of the Middle School division. This includes fostering academic excellence, promoting student well-being, and collaborating with other division heads to ensure smooth transitions for students as they progress through their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:
- Provide strategic direction, leadership, and management for the Middle School division.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including curriculum development, assessment, and student discipline.
- Mentor and supervise Middle School faculty, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Academic Excellence:
- Implement and monitor the curriculum to ensure high academic standards and alignment with the school's mission.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop innovative teaching practices, ensuring students receive a well-rounded education.
- Analyze student performance data to inform instructional strategies and support individual student needs.
- Responsible for the learning and the academic success, well-being, and learning profile attributes of all students in the division
Student Well-being:
- Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Promote social-emotional learning and wellness programs to support students' mental health.
- Collaborate with the counseling department to address student needs and promote student success.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Head of High School and Head of Elementary School to ensure smooth transitions for students entering and exiting the Middle School.
- Communicate effectively with parents, faculty, and staff to maintain a positive school climate and promote student success.
- Ensure the FASNY Fundamentals apply to all stakeholders in her/his division
- Represent the Middle School in school-wide decision-making processes and strategic planning initiatives.
Professional Development:
- Promote ongoing professional development opportunities for Middle School faculty to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Stay current with educational trends, research, and best practices to inform Middle School initiatives and programs.
- Master’s degree required, degree in Education or Educational Leadership or related field preferred
- Extensive teaching and leadership experience required; 5 years in school leadership preferred
- Middle school experience required
- Independent/private school experience preferred
- Fluency in English required; professional fluency in French preferred
- Experience in bilingual, international, or French curriculum settings preferred
- Demonstrated instructional leadership and faculty supervision experience
- Strong knowledge of adolescent development (Grades 6–8)
- Excellent communication, organizational, and team leadership skills
