Position : Special Education / Preschool Classroom Teacher

Qualifications : Nebraska Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement(s)

Compensation and Benefits :

  • Minimum Annual Gross Take Home Pay (BA, Step 1) for 2025 / 26 is $51,305 ($42,555 salary $8750 Annual Flat Salary Stipend). Salary placement is based on experience and education.

  • Certification / Licensure :

  • Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement and level for area and grade being taught. One of the following is required.
  • Early Childhood Endorsement PK-3
  • Early Childhood Sped Teacher Endorsement
  • Early Childhood Inclusive
  • Experience Desired :

  • Experience working with students, either during college training or from previous teaching.
  • Training and teaching experience in areas of regular and special education with emphasis on primary and early childhood programs, specific learning disabled, mentally handicapped, behaviorally / emotionally disordered and at risk students.
  • Other Requirements :

  • Knowledge of instructional techniques and materials, methods for individualizing instruction, and developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Knowledge in behavior modification and management
  • Collect, enter, and analyze data in alignment with current data collection system
  • Good human relations skills
  • Ability to work with students, staff, administration, and parents
  • Knowledge of subject area to be taught
  • Ability to plan lessons, teach to an objective, have the lesson at the correct level of difficulty, check for understanding during the lesson, and monitor and adjust the lesson as necessary
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication
  • Ability to operate a computer and an alphanumeric keyboard
  • REPORTS TO : Building Administrator, Special Education Director, Assistant Special Education Director

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

    The essential functions of each employee's position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

    Basic :

    The teacher will need to know the curriculum which is to be taught, plan lessons which will result in the curriculum being taught, and include appropriate testing instruments which will test the intended and taught curriculum. The teacher will also be a part of a grade level team of teachers, or department, and will be part of a building instructional team.

    Plan and implement (with guidance from the Director of Special Education and administrators, etc.) necessary and appropriate programming to direct students with special needs and / or disabilities to become competent in all areas of academic and social development. Develop and implement appropriate pre-vocational skills activities.

    Frequent :

  • Plan and deliver lessons which match the intended curriculum, and meet the needs of individual students as well.
  • Plan and deliver lessons which have objectives that are at the correct level of difficulty for the learners, and have specific objectives.
  • Plans a program of study and assists in modifications that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and utilizes a variety of analytical, evaluative, and formative techniques suitable to the curriculum content, including the modification of curriculum when required for special needs students.
  • Assists in the diagnosis of disabilities for students and seeks the assistance of District specialists as required.
  • Addresses students' personal hygiene needs (toileting, clothes changing, etc.)
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis using a variety of assessment methods (e.g. authentic assessment, performance-based, formative, etc.) and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of attendance, absences, tardies, and other information as required by law, District Policy, and Administrative Regulations.
  • Develops, writes, and implements behavior modification programs.
  • Prepares records for individual students receiving services through the IEP process.
  • Communicates and consults with students, parents, and professional staff regarding educational programs, IEP / MDT processes, and other pertinent areas.
  • Instruct assigned students at the location and times designated.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment which is conducive to effective learning.
  • Monitor student progress and make appropriate adjustments in the teaching strategies.
  • Serve as a model for students.
  • Evaluate student performance, both with written tests and performance based assessments.
  • Collaborate with other teachers at grade level (or in the same subject) in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods that represent the desired outcomes for the curriculum and the essential learning skills for students.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and / or rules governing student conduct / activities, develop for the classroom reasonable rules for classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Supervise and participate in fire drills and other emergency preparedness programs.
  • Follow the policies, regulations, procedures, and expectations established by the Board and administration.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of attendance, absences, tardies, and other information as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Attend staff meetings, conduct parent / teacher conferences, and participate on committees as required.
  • Participate in professional growth through an ongoing program of workshops, seminars, conferences, inservices, and / or advance course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Complete special projects and perform other responsibilities and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
