For this Corrective Reading Teacher position, you’ll be working for our high school in north Philadelphia called TECH Freire Charter School (9th-12th Grade): TECH Freire reimagines the college prep high school by blending state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on learning with the rigor of the time-tested Freire Schools liberal arts program to help each of our students truly thrive. We have a culture that demands excellence from our students while providing them the supports they need to achieve at high levels and prepare for college. 100% of TECH Freire’s Class of 2023 were accepted to at least 63 colleges and universities and earned over $4 million in college scholarships and aid. What you’ll do
For this Corrective Reading Teacher position, you'll leverage your strong relationship building skills to close literacy gaps for our 9th grade students. We know that literacy opens the doors of academic possibility for our students, many of whom come to high school several years behind in reading. You will play a key part in empowering our students to access all that is possible for them as readers! In this role, you will use data about students' current reading levels to provide targeted instruction using a scripted direct instruction curriculum that meets students where they are and provides them with the support they need to access texts of all kinds.

Minimum Requirements
The annual salary range for this role is $50,000 - $85,000. We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications. Our benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and more. Pennsylvania employees are enrolled in Freire’s 403(b) retirement plan which includes a 5% contribution from Freire.

What you’ll do

Responsibilities
- Teach 30 students in total (average class sizes range from 5-8 students). This role delivers direct-instruction reading intervention grounded in the science of reading, and is a full classroom teacher position rather than a 1:1 reading interventionist or reading specialist role.
- Closely monitor student progress and reteach particular skills as necessary.
- Cultivate the belief that literacy is a tool for liberation and empowerment, and that students are capable of become stronger readers!

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Valid certification in any of the following areas: Special Education, English Language Arts, Reading Specialist, Elementary or Middle Grades General Certification.
- Ability to form strong relationships with students and motivate them to push past struggle.
- A belief that literacy is an equity issue, and an understanding that their role will be to close the gaps that our students have in their foundational reading skills.
- A desire to help all of our students become grade-level readers
