Freire Charter High School is actively interviewing for a staff member to serve as a full time dean and athletic director. For this position, you’ll be working at Freire Charter High School in Center City, Philadelphia. Philadelphia Magazine recently named Freire Charter High School (#18) among the top high schools in Philadelphia. While we’re proud of our accomplishments, we’re not bound by tradition—if something isn’t working, we take a proactive, solutions-oriented approach. What you’ll do
As a member of our culture team, you'll foster a positive and inclusive school environment by implementing strategies to support student behavior, promote social-emotional learning, and foster a sense of belonging and respect among all members of the school community. As the Athletic Director, you'll develop and execute a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the school's mission and values.

Responsibilities
Athletic Director
- Coordinate and manage all logistics related to practices, games, and tournaments, including transportation and facility usage.
- Collaborate with school administration, teachers, and parents to ensure that student-athletes maintain academic success while participating in sports.
- Implement and enforce policies and procedures related to athletic eligibility, behavior, and safety.
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and the broader community to enhance support for the athletic program.
- Oversee budgetary considerations for the athletic department and make fiscally responsible decisions.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among student-athletes, coaches, and spectators.
- Work with school leadership and culture team to foster a positive school culture that supports the academic and social-emotional success of each student.
- Maintain safety and order and build relationships with students by being accessible and visible in hallways, classrooms, arrival/dismissal, lunch periods, and after school programs.
- Facilitate restorative conversations between members of the school community and de-escalate students crisis situations.
- Openly and regularly communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding student behavior
- Maintain student databases with climate/discipline information.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous experience in athletic administration, coaching, or related roles.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire coaches and student-athletes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations governing high school athletics.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the athletic program.
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by the athletic schedule.
