Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering to all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Transport refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or other specialized freight including hazardous materials when qualified
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan efficient routes and ensure timely deliveries
- Load and unload freight with manual handling techniques or forklift equipment as needed, following safety protocols for hazardous or dangerous goods
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with safety standards
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo documentation, and delivery records in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Communicate proactively with dispatchers regarding route updates, delivery schedules, or any issues encountered during transit
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving in various environments
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tanker trucks, and hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat) when applicable
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazard communication standards, and safety procedures for dangerous goods
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently and handle manual loading/unloading tasks safely
- Skilled in using GPS navigation tools for route planning and real-time adjustments during trips
- Experience with logistics cargo handling such as freight loading/unloading, forklift operation, or dump/roll-off trucks preferred
- Excellent driving record with a focus on safety, compliance, and customer service
