What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Flatbed Driver position at Freeport Transport Industries -DBA FTI?
We are seeking experienced and safety-conscious CDL Class A drivers to operate Flatbed, Conestoga, and Dry Van trailers. These roles involve transporting a variety of freight, ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining compliance with DOT regulations. Drivers will handle specialized equipment and secure loads according to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
· Flatbed Trailer
· Transport oversized or irregularly shaped loads such as steel, lumber, machinery, and building materials.
· Secure cargo using chains, straps, tarps, and blocks.
· Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintain vehicle safety.
· Load/unload freight using forklifts, cranes, or manual methods.
· Plan routes considering weight limits, traffic, and weather conditions.
· Conestoga Trailer
· Haul freight requiring weather protection using rolling tarp systems.
· Operate Conestoga trailers for machinery, glass, and high-value goods.
· Ensure proper load securement without traditional tarping.
· Conduct equipment checks on sliding tarp systems and trailer integrity.
· Communicate with dispatch for efficient scheduling.
· Dry Van Trailer
· Transport general freight in enclosed trailers (non-perishable goods).
· Follow prescribed routes and delivery schedules.
· Maintain accurate logs of hours, mileage, and delivery documentation.
· Perform basic truck maintenance and keep the trailer clean.
· Provide excellent customer service during pickups and deliveries.
Qualifications:
· Education: High school diploma or GED.
· Valid CDL Class A license.
· Minimum of 1 year of flatbed driving experience preferred.
· Clean driving record with no major violations.
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment DOT drug test.
· Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work outdoors.
· Knowledge of load securement and DOT regulations.
· Strong time management and organizational skills.
· Endorsements: HazMat preferred for certain loads.
Working Conditions
· Regional and OTR routes; home time varies by assignment.
· Exposure to varying weather conditions.
· Physical work required for load securement (especially flatbed).
