QUALIFICATIONS : High school diploma or equivalent.
Possess current licensing issued by State of Illinois for driving a school bus
or have the ability to obtain.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find
appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO : DIRECTOR OF ENROLLMENT & TRANSPORTATION
JOB GOAL
To provide safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school or on field trips.
Performance Responsibilities
- Maintain assigned schedule at stops, schools and on field trips;
- Maintain current, up-to-date record of authorized students;
- Transport only authorized students;
- Discharge students only at authorized stops;
- Maintain discipline when students are on bus;
Report undisciplined students to the proper authority through Skyward or direct conversation with
- Director of Enrollment & Transportation, parent, principal, or designee;
- Obey all traffic laws;
- Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses;
- No preventable accidents;
- No idles over 10 minutes;
Perform mandatory pre-trip, student check and post trip inspections using the electronic inspection
- system;
- Notify the proper authority in case of equipment failure;
- Keep assigned bus clean and fueled;
Report all accidents, complete required reports and cooperate with investigating authorities in which
- bus is involved;
- Exercise responsible leadership;
Maintain accurate and up to date route books, including seating charts and route notes, attend route
- audit meetings as necessary;
- Check mailbox before every run;
Attend annual refresher course as offered through the Regional Office of Education as well as district
- sponsored in-service trainings and the annual skills refresher course;
- Follow all department procedures and policies as outlined in department handbook and any updates
- and addendums as added throughout the year;
- Assign and maintain student seating chart, if assigned route does not have monitor;
Maintains regular attendance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regular Routes
- Climb 3 stairs, 3 feet in height, multiple times a day unassisted;
- Ability to pass Illinois School Bus Driver physical annually;
- Sit 5 hours a day (1 to 2 hours per route);
- Open and close school bus door (multiple times per day depending on the number of riders);
Ability to get from the driver's seat, down a 12" aisle, to the rear emergency exit door in a "timely
- manner";
- Setting and releasing parking brake at every stop (could be as many as 220 times per day);
- Ability to apply pressure to the gas pedal and / or brake pedal;
Ability to do multiple pre-trip and post trip inspections (which requires bending, stooping reaching,
- lifting, etc.);
- Opening and closing windows from the inside of the school bus;
- Ability to carry children from the bus (weights and sizes vary);
Ability to exit rear emergency door.
Infant / Toddler and Preschool Routes
- Ability to lift 35-40 lbs. into car seats;
- Ability to move or adjust wheelchairs and car seats;
Be comfortable securing children in safety restraints (position of hands).
Flex Driver
Must be able to perform all duties essential for all routes.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 174 Days Classified position salary and hours to be established by the
Board of Education. EVALUATION : Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the
