Job Overview
The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to expand our Urgent Care provision with the development of a co-located Urgent Treatment Centre at the Royal Victoria Infirmary to complement our existing community Urgent Treatment Centre offer.
We are now in an exciting position to further recruit a number of full and part time Emergency Care Practitioners who have extensive urgent care and/or primary care experience to our busy service who will work across all three sites (RVI, Molineux Street in Byker and Ponteland Road in Cowgate) providing care for acute minor illness and injuries in an unscheduled care environment.

Main duties of the job
The service is GP led, open 7 days a week with varying opening hours which will be location dependent with a 24 hour presence at the co-located RVI site. Whilst our Emergency Care Practitioners work independently delivering care for all presenting complaints to all age ranges, both adults and children. They will receive an initial supernumerary period of training followed by ongoing support from the wider team of experienced Emergency Care Practitioners and GPs.
These Band 7 posts are open to Registered Nurses and Allied Health Professionals who can demonstrate their ability to work in an urgent, unscheduled care environment. You will need to have the ability to undertake assessment, diagnosis, treatment/referral and discharge of patients with minor illness and minor injuries. A qualification in clinical skills is essential and Non-Medical Prescribing and the ability to read and interpret X-Rays would be desirable.
Consideration for a Band 6 role will be given to applicants who are able to demonstrate experience in urgent and/or primary care and a full training and development package will be provided, including access to the clinical skills courses. Dependent on experience, the successful candidate will progress to Band 7 upon completion of competencies with a maximum timescale of 2 years.

- Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) /HCPC requirements for mentorship if relevant to role
- Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context
- Has understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding
- Recent experience of extended clinical practice in a senior role underpinned by training and assessment e.g. venepuncture, cannulation skills and intravenous drug administration
- Audit / research experience
- Good IT skills
- Able to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Effective organisation and time management skills
- Current driving licence if relevant to role
