What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Secretary position at Freeman and Fuson?
Job Overview
Freeman & Fuson is a Nashville law firm practicing criminal defense, family law, personal injury, and civil litigation across Middle Tennessee. We are hiring an entry-level legal secretary to support our Civil Team and run the front desk. Legal or law-firm experience is preferred but not required. Customer-service, administrative, or office experience that transfers well counts.
We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, high energy, a positive attitude, and a genuine willingness to learn. This is a supportive, team-oriented office. You are often the first person a client or potential client talks to, and many of them are calling on a hard day. If you communicate well, stay organized, and like keeping a busy practice moving, you will fit.
Duties
- Serve as the front-office point of contact: answer phones, take accurate messages, greet visitors, take payments, and handle day-to-day receptionist duties.
- Manage calendars and scheduling for attorneys and staff, including hearings, meetings, consultations, and follow-ups.
- Communicate with clients and potential new clients by phone, email, and our website intake in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail and keep correspondence organized.
- Support the civil case workflow with file organization, document handling, and general legal-secretary tasks.
- Manage office supplies and place or receive orders as needed.
- Run occasional local errands, including deliveries to court and supply pickups.
- Assist with payments, matter updates, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Reliable, organized, and comfortable in a busy office.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with a calm phone manner for people who are stressed or unsure what they need.
- Willingness to learn firm systems, procedures, and practice workflow. Comfortable picking up new software.
- Professional demeanor with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Positive, high-energy presence
