Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and professional Temporary Front Desk Receptionist for an Ambulatory Surgery Center to join our team for a 4-5 month assignment.
The Receptionist is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients, physicians, and visitors while supporting the daily operations of the Ambulatory Surgery Center. This position serves as the first point of contact for patients and is responsible for managing front desk operations, patient registration, phone communications, payment collection, and pre-operative documentation review.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet patients, visitors, and vendors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Answer and manage a multi-line phone system, directing calls appropriately and taking accurate messages.
- Schedule, confirm, and coordinate patient appointments as needed.
- Register and check in patients for surgical procedures.
- Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and required documentation.
- Collect patient payments, copays, deductibles, and balances; accurately process cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
- Balance daily receipts and maintain accurate financial records.
- Utilize SIS (Surgical Information Systems) electronic medical record (EMR) system to enter, update, and maintain patient information.
- Review patient charts to ensure pre-operative requirements have been completed and received, including:
- Medical clearances
- Laboratory results
- Consent forms
- Insurance authorizations
- Communicate with physician offices, patients, and clinical staff regarding missing or incomplete pre-operative documentation.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Scan, file, and organize medical records and administrative documents.
- Assist with administrative projects and other duties as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional reception area.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- BLS
- Minimum one (1) year of receptionist, medical office, or healthcare administrative experience preferred.
- Experience working in an ambulatory surgery center, surgical practice, or healthcare setting preferred.
- Familiarity with SIS (Surgical Information Systems) EMR or similar electronic medical record systems preferred.
- Experience handling cash and payment transactions.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Professional appearance and customer-service-oriented attitude.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, phones, scanners, and copiers.
Work Environment
This position works in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center environment and requires frequent interaction with patients, physicians, clinical staff, and external healthcare providers.
Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
