The Transportation Dispatch Assistant plays a key role in supporting daily trucking operations by coordinating driver schedules, managing route assignments, and ensuring timely communication between drivers, customers, and internal teams. This position helps maintain operational efficiency and compliance with transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in dispatching truck drivers for local, regional, and long-haul routes.
- Monitor driver locations using GPS and dispatch software to ensure timely deliveries.
- Communicate route changes, delays, and updates to drivers and customers.
- Maintain accurate records of driver logs, delivery schedules, and load assignments.
- Coordinate with warehouse and loading dock teams to ensure freight readiness.
- Respond to customer inquiries regarding shipment status and estimated delivery times.
- Track and report any incidents, delays, or compliance issues to the Dispatch Supervisor.
- Support DOT compliance by ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
- Help manage fuel cards, trip sheets, and other driver-related paperwork.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in logistics or transportation preferred.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based with frequent phone and computer use.
- May require occasional evening or weekend shifts depending on dispatch needs.
