Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations based on DSM-5 criteria, to determine the severity of substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions
- Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and evidence-based practices tailored to individual needs
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, relapse prevention, mental health management, and skill-building
- Implement crisis intervention strategies during acute episodes, ensuring patient safety and stabilization in accordance with crisis management protocols
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation adhering to medical documentation standards, HIPAA regulations, and electronic health records (EHR/EHR) management systems
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, medical staff, family members, and community resources to coordinate comprehensive care
- Provide education on addiction medicine, medical terminology, and behavioral health topics to clients and their families to support ongoing recovery efforts
Experience
- Proven experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in clinical or community settings
- Strong background in psychotherapy modalities such as behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and applied behavior analysis (ABA)
- Familiarity with crisis management techniques and crisis intervention protocols in hospital or community care environments
- Experience conducting diagnostic evaluations using DSM-5 criteria and ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) for accurate case documentation
- Knowledge of medical records management systems including EMR/EHR platforms; understanding of HIPAA compliance standards for patient confidentiality
- Ability to perform patient assessments, case management activities, and data collection for quality improvement initiatives
- Working knowledge of addiction counseling principles within evidence-based practice frameworks; experience with CPT coding for billing purposes is a plus
