The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting nontheism and upholding the constitutional principle of separating religion and government. The organization plays a critical role as a state/church watchdog and aims to foster a secular society.


Job Summary:

The Outreach Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between FFRF and its chapters, and helps promote grassroots engagement across the country. This position supports chapter programming and assists with local activism and interorganizational outreach. The Outreach Coordinator will work closely with the Event Manager to support chapter related events, and virtual and in person programming for FFRF’s membership. They will also work with other FFRF staff to strategize and promote outreach campaigns to members and the broader secular community. 


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Chapter Relations

  • Serve as the first point of contact for established chapter inquiries and support. Become familiar with the chapter handbook, FFRF chapter bylaws, policies and guidelines, and be able to communicate these policies. Become familiar with FFRF policies regarding working with non-chapter local and regional groups. Become familiar with what c(3) chapters may and may not do regarding legislation and elections.
  • Promptly oversee and assess new chapter inquiries, ensuring new chapter applications comply with FFRF requirements prior to presentation to the board of directors. Bring attention to any concerns about prospective chapters or ongoing chapters not meeting requirements.
  • Support new chapters through on-boarding procedures to orient them to the resources available, chapter leadership responsibilities and current campaigns or activities involving chapters.
  • Serve as a support source for chapters, directing them to resources and promptly responding to questions.
  • Maintain FFRF records on chapters and ensure annual reports are submitted and membership rebates are properly processed.
  • Review and approve chapter grant applications, assisting with application support and grant reporting.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & PR staff to create materials for chapter marketing. Coordinate with chapters and appropriate FFRF staff on joint FFRF campaigns and projects, such as billboard campaigns. Promote chapter activities to members through FFRF communication channels.  
  • Serve as primary contact, with help from the Event Manager, on chapter-related events, especially those that involve travel, staff appearances, or convention planning.
  • Coordinate email or occasional postcard notifications to FFRF members in a chapter area about special events by that chapter.
  • Communicate chapters’ legal or legislative support needs to the appropriate FFRF staff.


Grassroots & Organizational Outreach

  • Plan and administer outreach programs that engage, support and collaborate with the FFRF community and other organizations to develop and expand relationships in ways that further FFRF’s mission. 
  • Collaborate with secular partner organizations for shared outreach and special events. Represent FFRF in the Secular Coalition’s Grassroots Working Group and prepare internal activity summaries. 
  • In coordination with the Event Manager and other staff as appropriate, plan virtual and in person programming for FFRF’s membership. 
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with FFRF volunteers as needed to accomplish outreach goals, including placement of solstice displays or other local programs, events or campaigns. 


Other duties:

  • Assists the administrative team by occasionally answering main phone and information inquiries. 
  • Provide data about outreach program outcomes to staff responsible for reporting to external rating bodies such as Charity Navigator.


Qualifications:

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in grassroots or member-based outreach.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Familiarity with advocacy and nonprofit organizational structures (legal or legislative experience is a bonus)
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and MS Office.
  • Proficiency with Mailchimp for mass emails is helpful.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, nonprofit management, political science, or a related field is preferred. 
  • At least 2 years experience in outreach, advocacy, or community organizing is preferred. 


Range:

$56,000 - $74,000
