Position Summary
- Assumes leadership responsibility for day-to-day coordination of patient care activities for the unit while maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in accord with TJC, federal and state regulations.
- Provides direct patient care within the scope of the RN nursing license.
- Assumes the role of Charge nurse as assigned providing oversight to ancillary staff during their scheduled shift.
- Provides direct oversight to the nursing staff as indicated in the absence of the Director of Nursing and communicates with the DON on relevant nursing care issues.
- Participates in the performance Improvement through completion of assigned chart monitoring.
- Coordinates the performance of nursing care to patients within the scope of practice and in compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
- Communicates with the medical staff on identified patient issues.
- Performs patient care assessments timely and accurately.
- Addresses patient care needs in a timely manner.
- Documents findings into the medical record accurately and timely.
- Completes all admission paperwork.
- Ensures all admission and daily documentation is completed thoroughly and signed and dated according to protocol.
- Adheres to Human Resource policies regarding code of conduct and attendance.
- Follows Infection Control and Employee Health Guidelines to ensure safety of patients and staff.
- Maintains knowledge of admission criteria and accurately documents admission criteria for new admissions.
- Functions as a member of the treatment team and communicates identified patient goals, interventions, and assessments.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and/or experience required:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program required.
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Louisiana.
- Current CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart Association. (Will provide service or renewal if needed)
- New graduates encouraged to apply OR
- One-year minimum experience in Mental Health Preferred
- Experience in skilled nursing or behavioral health preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and patient care skills
- Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team preferred
