Position Summary
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) supports the Intensive Outpatient Program by assisting with patient care, transportation, and daily program operations. This role is essential in creating a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for our patients—primarily serving the geriatric population.
The MHT works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to support patient engagement, safety, and continuity of care in alignment with Freedom Behavioral’s standards of excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and supervision during program hours
- Ensure patient safety, dignity, and engagement in therapeutic activities
- Transport patients safely to and from the program following all safety protocols
- Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and activities of daily living
- Monitor patient behavior and promptly report changes to clinical staff
- Assist with vital signs and communicate abnormal findings appropriately
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming therapeutic environment
- Coordinate efficient transportation routes and schedules
- Maintain vehicle logs, cleanliness, and routine maintenance compliance
- Support medical records, chart organization, and documentation processes
- Assist with front office duties including phones and patient coordination
- Adhere to all infection control, safety, and confidentiality standards
- Demonstrate professionalism and uphold the Freedom Behavioral Code of Conduct
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- CNA certification preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of healthcare or behavioral health experience preferred
- Experience with geriatric or psychiatric populations strongly preferred
Licensure/Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s License required
- CDL preferred or willingness to obtain within 60 days
- CPR Certification required

- Local and highway driving required
- Exposure to patient care environments
- Compliance with Universal Precautions and safety protocols required
Additional Requirements
- Must be at least 25 years of age
- Must pass background check and driving record screening
- Must maintain insurable driving status as a condition of employment
