Position Details
The Social Worker-Crime Victims Crisis Center position provides professional level counseling and consultation, assesses crime victims’ needs and administers a variety of social services to crime victims.

Direct Service Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides 24-hour direct response to crime victims. Meets with clients to provide on-going support, counseling, and assessment. Assesses the need for direct services, financial assistance and information/referral while providing unconditional support. Follows up to re assess needs.
  • Assesses safety issues of all clients. Maintains strict confidentiality to promote client safety.
  • Assist clients in goal setting and development and implementation of service plan.
  • Collaborates with other community agencies and resources and refers clients.
  • Provides intervention and advocacy.
  • Accompanies client or appears for client in court, workforce center, hospital, law enforcement, school, prosecution, etc.
  • Provides direct financial services: transportation, food, repairs, rent/deposit, personal items, moving expenses, medical emergency/safe housing, etc.
  • Provides after hours and on-call response.
  • Works closely with other county departments such as courts and law enforcement to address problems and determine needs for crime victim services.
  • Prepares and maintain case records which meet federal, state and local guidelines.
  • Interprets policies and regulations to clients.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and oversees on-call volunteer advocate duties. Develops and implements new volunteer curriculum and provides on-going volunteer training.
  • Supervises, schedules and maintains volunteer hours.
  • Advertises and collaborates with community groups to recruit volunteers.
  • Provides back-up assistance to volunteers regarding after hours crisis line.
  • Evaluates and assesses agency goals, mission statement and purpose.
  • Organizes and provides public education, community outreach, and public relations. Determines needs, develops curriculum and makes group presentations.
  • Writes and implements grant proposals.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records and paperwork ensuring compliance with federal, state and agency requirements. Prepares statistical reports to funding sources.
• Participates in community, regional and state-wide groups pertaining to crime victimization. • Maintains training/educational competencies and own professional development. While these are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as part of their role with the County.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of social work, human development, and psychology.
  • Knowledge and understanding of laws governing social services.
  • Knowledge of social work ethics.
  • Knowledge of court and legal processes.
  • Knowledge of local and regional resources, organizations, and agencies.
  • Skill in individual counseling.
  • Ability to interview, assess and evaluate mental and physical health and needs of clients.
  • Ability to develop presentations and present to groups and individuals.
  • Ability to write reports and maintain records.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and data privacy.
  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision with general autonomy in determining how objectives are achieved.
  • Ability to perform complex work requiring analytical ability and inductive thinking to adapt policies and procedures to fit situations.
  • Ability to communicate and maintain relationships with clients and others to motivate behavior, enforce rules and gain trust.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, sociology, psychology or a related field.
  • One to three years of experience.
  • Or a combination of education and experience to successfully perform job duties.
Licenses/Certifications
This position will require the acquisition and maintenance of the following additional certificates/licenses:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
  • MN Merit Eligibility
  • Driver’s License

Physical and Mental Requirements
This job typically requires: sitting, standing, walking, driving, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, typing, and seeing. There is exposure to computer keyboards and video screens. This position is generally light-duty and may require the exertion up to 60 pounds of force.
