Role Description The Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in San Marcos, CA. This role is responsible for reviewing electrical plans and specifications, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, and preparing accurate cost estimates for commercial TI, design-build, and public works projects. Daily tasks include analyzing bids and proposals, soliciting and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes, and preparing bid packages and supporting documentation. The Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to clarify scope, identify value-engineering opportunities, and support project handoff. The role also includes maintaining and updating cost databases, tracking market pricing, and participating in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong estimating skills, including quantity takeoffs, interpreting electrical drawings, and understanding scopes of work for commercial and public projects.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Excel or similar spreadsheet tools, with the ability to maintain and analyze cost data.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, materials, installation methods, and applicable codes and standards (NEC, local codes, and public works requirements).
- Solid analytical and mathematical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy under bid deadlines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with project managers, field supervisors, vendors, and clients.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, including handling multiple bids and priorities simultaneously.
- Previous estimating experience with commercial TI, design-build, or public works electrical projects preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or a degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is a plus.
- Working knowledge of safety practices and general construction processes; ability to attend occasional site visits.
- Eligibility to work on-site in San Marcos, CA, with reliable attendance and professional conduct.
