What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School Dean of Students/Spanish Teacher position at Fredericksburg Academy?
Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Upper School Dean of Students and Spanish Teacher beginning in August of 2026. Candidates should have a passion for supporting students to reach their full potential as students and citizens, a demonstrated desire for professional growth and a willingness to participate fully in the life of the school. Fredericksburg Academy provides students with the opportunity to prepare themselves for and apply to college in a demanding yet supportive environment while becoming independent learners within our challenging college-prep curriculum. The Dean of Students portion covers assisting the Head of Upper School and Upper School faculty with student behavior and activities. The Spanish Teacher portion covers Spanish I and Spanish II and grades 9 through 10. Fredericksburg Academy students bring a laptop or tablet to school each day, so technological proficiency and demonstrated use of technology within the learning environment is preferred. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor to approximately 8 to 10 students and supporting co-curricular activities, preferably through coaching one of our athletic teams at the Middle School or Varsity level or advising other student-led clubs.

- Provide strong, timely, and effective communication (both written and oral) with students/parents/colleagues/administrators
- Serve as a member of the History or other department; attend meetings and support the work of the department
- Willingness to collaborate within and across departments and divisions
- Sense of humor and flexibility
- Supports the school and its mission
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Spanish, or related area of study
- Preference: Experience as a Dean of Students
