Under the direction of the Manager of Sterile Processing, coordinates the activities of the department and acts as a working leader in the processing of surgical instruments.
Example Of Essential Functions
- Coordinates daily activities of staff and orientation of new hires
- Reviews OR schedule for instrumentation needs and ensures receipt and preparation of necessary vendor trays.
- Communicates unresolved schedule needs via daily shift report.
- Ensures staff are complying with department policies and procedures.
- Performs staff competency reviews upon hire and yearly thereafter.
- Works in prep and pack daily and other areas to include sterilization, sterile storage and decontamination as needed.
- Assists with semi-annual and annual inventories as needed.
- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and med surg supplies.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate associated sterile processing equipment to include but not limited to washers, cartwasher, sonic, sterilizers, heat sealers.
- Knowledge of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation recommended practices.
- Ability to use time effectively by setting and/or redefining priorities.
- Ability to function independently or in a group to include providing direction and/or delegating tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification via the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association with three to five years- experience.
- Must maintain certification as reflected by the certifying board’s requirements.
