Summary Description
Frederick County Public Schools seeks skilled, dependable, and culturally-responsive contract interpreters to provide translation and interpretation services for students, families, and staff. Contract interpreters support equitable access to school-based communication in alignment with federal and state requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Fluency in English and another language as proven by an online assessment of language skill
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to follow district protocol and respond to scheduling needs
- Prior experience in educational, medical, or legal interpretation (preferred)
- Training or certification in interpretation (preferred, e.g., Bridging the Gap, CCHI, etc.)
Essential Duties
Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide accurate, professional, and confidential oral interpretation between school staff and families/students during:
- Parent-teacher conferences
- Enrollment/registration
- Family engagement events
- Other school-related communications
- Interpret in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner, maintaining the intent and tone of the speaker.
- Clarify cultural nuances when appropriate and remain impartial during interpretation.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, and school district policies.
- Arrive punctually and conduct oneself professionally in school settings.
- Document time worked and submit invoices in a timely manner.
Pay Rate:
$30.00 per hour
